Upper Extremity Venous Doppler
Upper Extremity Venous Doppler is a non-invasive diagnostic ultrasound examination that uses Doppler and ColorDoppler modalities to study the morphology and flowmetry of the venous circulation of the upper limbs.
Anatomical and flow data collected with Lower Extremity Venous Doppler allow to carry out a screening of the venous circulatory system and to identify the type of circulatory disorder. The main indications for this exam are:
- suspected deep vein thrombosis manifested by swelling and pain in the affected limb
- suspected superficial vein thrombosis which symptoms are localized redness and swelling, pain or burning along the length of the vein, vein being hard and cord-like
- follow-up of patients suffering from diseases affecting the upper limbs veins
Upper Extremity Venous Doppler has no contraindications.
Upper Extremity Venous Doppler has no risks.
The execution of this exam does not include preparation rules.
Please bring all your medications or a list of them with doses to your appointment.
You will be made comfortable on the examination table. Gel will be applied to the area being imaged to help create a good contact between you and the ultrasound probe. The probe will be placed on your limbs and gently moved back and forth to image the venous circulation.
